How did these Sanskrit hymns survive and why do we continue to call on them when we pray?
A successful movement requires a cohesive strategy, calculated tactics and solid leadership. Thus I am skeptical of the leaderless Hong Kong movement largely organized through online forums.
When recently there was news of militants destroying a 2000-year old temple in Syria, in a city from the Roman days, sights of the temple came back to mind, particularly a ceiling that I had once come across. This writing is not about the shortsightedness of destroying a remnant of a long-past civilization; rather, it is about a science, an idea… the possible significance of the Zodiac.
Subhas Chandra Bose was the most celebrated freedom fighter and charismatic influencer of the youth in India during the freedom struggle. Netaji was also the first to accost Gandhiji with the title ‘Father of the Nation’.
Home to over ten million expatriates, Saudi Arabia is at a crossroads. The Kingdom has a rich cultural heritage that makes everybody who has lived here, feel at home. I have lived my entire life along the Persian Gulf. My days have been dominated by the exotic beaches and never-ending parks bordering the huge water body.
On the positive side of this pandemic, we have taken advantage of this time to pursue our hobbies in addition to our regular work. In the past couple of months, we have done many things that we were beautifully procrastinating on till now. All of us have some sort of guilty pleasures to keep us optimistic in such trying times.

Does it not feel great, even euphoric, to be better at something than another person? I think it does. But only superficially. And, it is short-lived. It attracts resistance, and at some point violence. It retards cooperation, relationships, communities, nations.
